Burma Sham 2008 Constitution Must Be Revised Until It Is Done !

30 December 2009
Who knows well about Burma? Anyone ever heard of Burma? One might wonder where the Burma is?
Well, Burma is a beautiful country rich in natural resources located in South East Asia sharing border with Thailand, Laos, China, India and Bangladesh.
Burma has been under one of the most brutal regime in the world. Current military regime which came to power after gunned down more than 3000 peaceful demonstrators in 1988.
Due to the continuous domestic and international pressure, junta held the election in 1990 saying that they will go back to military barracks. In reality when Aung San Suu Kyi led National League for Democracy won the landslide victory and junta simply ignores to honour the election results.
Now, very junta which held the election in 1990 and without honouring the results, is planning to hold new election in 2010. Can we believe them?
Here, we need to consider junta's creditability, reliability and accountability of its words, promises and action.
To prolong its hold on power, junta adopted its unilaterally drafted sham constitution which is designed to legitimise military rule in Burma through sham referendum in 2008.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Democratic and Ethnics groups say “NO” to junta's sham 2008 constitution and planned sham 2010 election. There are very concrete reasons; 1. 1990 election results are still pending to be honored 2. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and thousands of political prisoners still in the prisons 3. 2008 Constitution is designed to perpetuate military rule and adopted unilaterally 4. Military will seat for 25% of parliament automatically 5. Junta gives itself amnesty 6. Does not respect ethnics rights 7. 2010 election will be held in accordance with 2008 constitution

People of Burma are demanding to revise the 2008 sham Constitution until it has been done to bring about the Democratic Constitution to restore democracy, human rights and rule of law in Burma where everyone can enjoy the freedom of speech, press, beliefs, assembly and rule of law that emphasizes the protection of individual rights.

The 2008 Constitution must be revised by cancelling: • the impunity provisions, and • the other provisions which solidify the rule of the military dictatorship
Burmese people belief that demanding and working to revise 2008 Constitution will not be over until and unless it has been revised and accepted by all the people of Burma that it is the Democratic Constitution which grantees the rights of all the people of Burma.
